eleventh translation // action

[It's a nice day. The air is warm, the sun is out, and one Lieutenant Uhura is out with it, in full force. She's eschewed her winter uniform for one better suited to warm weather - that's right, she's back in her Starfleet-issue miniskirt, hips swaying, ponytail swinging, black boots crunching on the ground as she walks purposefully from the house.

Normally, she'd be heading towards the library, but it's far too nice a day for that. She does have a book under her arm, but she's heading for the bridge, clearly ready to get some fresh air.

In spite of the recent rash of disappearances, and violence, she's determined to enjoy the weather while it lasts. She may even be humming to herself.]

*Paru spots the good mood, and... somehow, has managed to be in good enough a mood herself to not instantly resort to trolling. She does, however, decide to investigate.*

What happened with you?

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Uhura raises an eyebrow.]

Nothing, as far as I know. Aside from it being a nice day.
psychebubble: (cause it's heads i win)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
That's all? You look like you're about to break out into a Disney musical.

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Little laugh.] I'm a regular one-woman chorus line. I sing a lot. [Like, basically all the time. It's practically a subconscious thing.]
psychebubble: (pin-wheel revolution)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I want to hear!

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
[This is Uhura, singing a traditional Swahili lullaby.]
psychebubble: (i am the oj simpson in this scenario)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
*This is Paru, clearly surprised that she actually did.*

... You aren't half-bad. I'm surprised.

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Another laugh.]

I grew up with music. My mother is a singer. Their house is full of music, all the time.
psychebubble: (no i do not want your morning boner)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's pretty impressive, considering. You've had a lot of training, then?

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Formally? Some. [Uhura is far too confident in herself to rise to any bait today.]
psychebubble: (maybe i had the urge to herbal)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
*At this point, the bait is more habit than malice, this is genuinely interesting to her.*

What kinds?

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shrug.]

Some classical, some traditional African, some modern.
psychebubble: (that just makes this awkward)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
... What counts as 'modern' to you, anyway?
psychebubble: (no i do not want your morning boner)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, but I meant... Well, wouldn't music from my time count as 'classic'? Has pop changed? Would techno still even be around?

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Smile.]

Oldies, electronic, club music? Of course. I just don't like it as much.
psychebubble: (a-ah it's too big)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That's understandable, it sounds like someone took a cheese grater to a guitar amp...

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Not exactly good for singing, and certainly not enjoyable to listen to for someone who has perfect natural pitch.

Besides, my job requires me to listen to space noise all the time. Why would I want to essentially do the same thing in my free time?
psychebubble: (no i do not want your morning boner)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You love your work that much?

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Have you ever heard the birth of a star? I'm talking a literal, ball-of-gas-in-space star.
psychebubble: (no the drapes match go away)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't work for JAXA, so definitely not.

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
See if you can find a recording some time. You'll never hear anything like it again.
psychebubble: (what if he saw that i saw)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-03-31 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless I play the recording again.

But I don't know if we even have that kind of equipment, considering you're three centuries ahead of me.

[identity profile] lt-linguist.livejournal.com 2010-04-01 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
If I remember my history correctly, astronomers were recording sounds in space by the late twentieth century? You won't know unless you look for it.
psychebubble: (and tails you lose)

[personal profile] psychebubble 2010-04-01 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Assuming we can get out of this place.
